Commonly referred to as "whitecoats", these famous babies are indescribably astounding in their innocence, individuality, and beauty. Their images have been captured in a thousand ways and distributed around the world to become one of the world's most recognizable and well known symbols of "cuteness" and innocent beauty.

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW...
It is ironic and sad to note that all this recognition does nothing to help their plight or future as these babies are the victims of a brutal annual massacre of their species by a politically driven, propaganda spewing government.

Every year, when the time is "right" (as soon as the ice conditions permit and the seal pups start shedding their fuzzy white coats), a small group of caucasian "hunters" find their way to the floes and proceed to club, bludgeon, shoot, and skin, and dismember hundreds of thousands of mostly young harp seals in a brutal manner of which most people can hardly imagine. These seal pups are almost all 3 weeks to 4 months of age when they are killed. About 1/3 of the pups born in a given year are killed. Source

The commercial hunting of infant harp seals (whitecoats), and infant hooded seals (bluebacks), was banned in Canada in 1987, under pressure from animal rights groups. Now, seals may only be killed legally once they have started moulting (from 12 to 15 days of age for harp seals), as this coincides with the time when they are abandoned by their mothers. These pups, who have not yet completely moulted are known as "ragged-jackets". Once the pups have completely moulted, they are called "beaters".

Hunting is now controlled by quota regulations based on international recommendations by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES). Source

Introducing the Fascinating Glasswing Butterfly!

Ok, it's not exactly funny stuff.
But it is "funny" in a sense... You know what I mean?
Not that kind of HAHA funny...
But it is funny, coz its peculiar. Its almost out of this world.

This rare tropical butterfly with transparent wings is used by rainforest ecologists as an indication of high habitat quality and its demise alerts them of ecological change.

Native to Columbia, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, the glasswing butterfly is usually observed feeding or flying high in the subcanopy of the tropical forest in the Andes Mountains. Members of the species, scientifically classified as Godyris duillia, frequently inhabit elevations of approximately 1,400 meters. As human populations grow, butterfly populations tend to shrink. Thus, the future of the exotic glasswing butterfly is uncertain. As part of the growing international trade of butterflies, specimens are often taken from the wild, but may also be cultivated for sale on butterfly ranches. Intensive farming with agrochemicals and increased ranching in the Andes greatly threaten the glasswing species and its associates. Other activities that make room for man, such as extensive logging and coal mining, also devastate the crucial habitat of the glasswings.

The Pet Penguin from Japan

Meet Lala, the adorable Pet Emperor Penguin from Japan.
She was given to this fortunate family in Japan, as a gift from a fisherman friend in North Pole, and is now 10 years-old.
Under the care of his new owner, Lala leads a very good life.
She has her own air-conditioned suite and is free to roam about in and out of her home. She could even enter the living room anytime she pleases, to watch TV.
But that's not her favorite pastime.What Lala enjoys the most is to travel around.
Once out of the house, she will head straight to her favorite fish store...

The Most Amazing Dog Ever!

This 5-minute video tells the tale about an Oklahoma City dog named Faith.
But Faith is no ordinary dog. She was born with no front legs.

Her owner, the Stringfellows, got her when she was three weeks old.
At that time, her legs weren't fully developed so she had to learn how to walk upright with just two legs.
With the help of the Stringfellows (mother Jude, daughters Laura and Caity, and son Reuben), Faith is now able to walk and even run like a human.

"What Goes Around Comes Around"

When we first saw this photo, our reaction was...
OMG... how did this seal deserve such a cruel punishment?
...to be sentenced to swim in a narrow tube??? That is so wrong!

Then it occurs to us that... maybe the zookeepers was teaching the seal a lesson for mocking at us human's upright posture...
...
OK. Jokes aside.
This is what we were wondering. Do seals like swimming upright?

We did a quick check on the seal's common behaviours, and here is what we have found...
Seals do swim upright! And they do that alot! It's called 'bottling'.
Seals are often seen 'bottling', meaning staying upright with only their head showing above water. They do this especially when they are sleeping.

So to our question as to whether seals like to swim upright?
Of course they do! They are used to it!

The Asian clawless otter is the smallest otter in the world and is about two feet long and weighs under 10 pounds. It is also called the Asian small-clawed otter, Malaysian small-clawed otter or Oriental small-clawed otter. It lives in Southern India, southeast China, Indonesia, the Malay Peninsula and the Philippines.

Not only are they among the most playful and intelligent of all animals, they are the only mammals other than primates capable of using their hand-like paws with human-like proficiency.

The Asian clawless otter population today is near threatened due to habitat loss, pollution and poaching.

The Kiss... A Touching Story

He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire.

She is pregnant. The firefighter was afraid of her at first, because he had never been around a Doberman before.

When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed this red Doberman in the distance looking at the fireman. He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do.

As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, just as the photographer snapped this photograph.

And people say animals are dumb - yeah right.
